Meager gain despite high turnover

It was just another week of sideways movement in Nepal Stock Exchange. Despite the turnover amount of Nepse increase by 30.95% than previous week, the index couldn’t gain an upward movement this week also. The increase in turnover suggest than there are increasing presence of buyer and seller in the market which is ultimately a good sign for the market.
The market that opened with 402.19 level was trading in between the range of 402 to 404.5 level for entire week. From Sunday to Tuesday, the benchmark index with meager movement climb up to 404.13 level which is the highest for the week. But at the closing day of this week, the local bourse was all in bearish which took a dip to rest at 402.46 level. In most of the closing days, Nepse closes at higher note but this week it has closed in a declining note.
With the announcement from Grand Bank Limited‘s BOD to give 7.5 per cent cash dividend, the stock took a plug of Rs 30 or 14.02% to close at Rs 184 this week. It seems that the company couldn’t mark up to the investors’ expectation.
In this week, Siddhartha Insurance Limited (SIL), closed at Rs 135, was the Top Gainer with Rs 17 or 14.41%. On the other side, International Leasing and Fin. Co. (ICFC), closed at Rs 127, was the Top Loser with Rs 46 or 26.59%.
Likewise, with 284,380 units KIST Bank Limited (KIST), closed at Rs 121, had the highest share traded. All in all, with 68,570 units worth Rs. 71,740,552 via 707 transactions Chilime Hydro power Co. Ltd. (CHCL), closed at Rs 1095, was the top performer in terms of highest transaction and turnover in overall week’s session; in which Broker No 45 (Imperial Securities Co .Pvt. Limited) was most active broker with 65.57% stand alone dealing of CHCL, amounting Rs 47,038,565 via 281 transactions of 298,339 units which includes matching of 108,369 units worth Rs 14,958,381 via 29 transactions.
Sectoral wise, Hydro sector gained the most with 56.96 or 8.01% points, the main contributor to this gain was CHCL which gained Rs 98 or 9.83%.Other gainers were Manufacturing , Others and Insurance with 1.56 %, 0.95% and 0.09% points up than previous week’s closing. The increment in the Manufacturing sector was mainly due to increase in price of Uniliver Nepal Ltd. (UNL), closed at Rs 6,810, by Rs 210 or 3.18%. Similarly, Finance sector suffered the most as the sub-indices lost 1.32% followed by Banking, Hotels and Development with 0.94%, 0.81% and 0.43% respectively. All in all, Sensitive index gained 0.04 or 0.04% to settle at 103.93 level while Float index lost 0.17 or 0.54% points to settle at 31.05 level
Total scrips traded for the week were 112 with 43 gainers and 58 Losers .Overall week’s turnover was of Rs 272,479,722 which is comparatively Rs 64,406,544 higher than prior week. Overall 931,686 units of shares were traded via 5,596 transactions. The total market capitalization at the end of review period was Rs 380,296.96 millions which is higher by Rs 248.66 millions compare to previous week’s closing.
