Mayor Shah Warns of Closing 68 Health Institutions Failing To Submit Discount Descriptions

Elected Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Balen Shah has warned of shutting down 68 health institutions within the confines of his local level.

Mayor Shah took to his official social media handle (facebook), to affirm his warning. He met with the incumbent Minister for Health and Population Mohan Bahadur Basnet to draw his attention into the matter. He stated that given that the Minister does not act into the matter, he would take it on to himself to shut down the administration of the 68 health institutions.

Earlier on Jestha 06, the KMC office had publicized a notice requiring health institutions to submit descriptions of the discounts provided to the poor as required by the law.

However, the ultimatum to submit the asked report has surpassed despite which 68 health institutions have failed to submit the report. Thereafter, Mayor Shah met with Minister Basnet warning that if the minister fails to act with in seven days, the KMC office will take it on to themselves to shutdown the administration department of such health institutions.

In the Health Institution Operation Standards, 2077 and prevailing health related laws, it is mentioned that 10 per cent of the total beds should be set aside for free treatment for the poor and targeted groups.
