Markets Reach Fresh Highs: Sensex Surges 474 Points, Nifty Nears 20,000; ITC Emerges as Top Gainer

The markets witnessed fresh record highs today, with the Sensex rising by 474 points and nearing the 20,000 mark for Nifty. ITC stood out as the top gainer, reaching a new high of Rs 492 on the BSE and becoming part of the Rs 6 trillion market cap club, which includes companies like Reliance Industries, Tata Consultancy Services, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Hindustan Unilever, and Infosys.

Despite some volatility, the key domestic indices performed well, largely due to the anticipation surrounding the listing of Jio Financial Services after a special pre-open session for Reliance Industries. The Sensex reached an intraday high of 67,619.17, and the Nifty50 came close to touching the 20,000 mark at 19,991.85.

In terms of sector performance, most indices closed in the green, except for the IT index, which ended with a slight decline of 0.66 per cent. Nifty Pharma, FMCG, healthcare, and Nifty Bank all saw notable gains, rising by 1.46 per cent, 1.35 per cent, 1.17 per cent, and 1.13 per cent, respectively. Meanwhile, Nifty Next 50 was the only broader market index that ended with a slight drop. Overall, it was a positive day for the markets with several sectors showing significant growth.
