LPG cash subsidy guideline approved

KATHMANDU, Jan 31: 

The government on Wednesday approved guidelines to provide cash subsidy on Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) for household use. The Financial Committee of the cabinet approved the guidelines which will be soon forwarded to the cabinet for final approval. 

The guidelines envisage providing cash subsidy for 12 cylinders (14.2 kg) of LPG per family for a year. 

“The guidelines designed to provide subsidy on cooking gas for household consumers have been approved. It will pave the way for cash subsidy program on LPG that will come into effect from February 2,” said Lal Mani Joshi, secretary at Ministry of Commerce and Supplies.

As per the guidelines, only the customers with a valid ´LPG Card´ are eligible to enjoy cash subsidy.

Federation of Gas Dealers of Nepal, which has been entrusted with the responsibility to distribute LG Card, has already issued around 100,000 cards to the customers.

The guidelines clearly state that the amount of cash subsidy depends on fluctuation of gas price in the international market. 

Joshi said cash subsidy will be distributed through banking system to discourage possible irregularities in subsidy.

Dealers agree to circulate dual color cylinders 

LPG dealers, who were protesting the government decision to circulate dual color cylinders, has agreed two circulate separate cylinders for industrial and household use.

Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) on Wednesday said LPG dealers have agreed to enforce the dual cylinder system. “We are holding meeting with dealers on Thursday to discuss on ways to effectively implement the system,” said Shiva Pudasaini, director of NOC.
