Low spending capacity concerns WB

KATHMADNU, Jan 22: 

Ellen Goldstein, country director of the World Bank (WB), has identified low spending capacity of the government as the major factor that was lowering disbursement in the WB-funded projects in the country.

Goldstein, who is completing her tenure in Nepal, made the remark during a meeting with Finance Minister Basha Man Pun and Finance Secretary Shanta Raj Subedi on Monday. 

A statement issued by the Ministry of Finance says Goldstein also expressed confidence that the economic cooperation between Nepal and the WB would be enhanced in coming days. 

On the occasion, Pun and Subedi appreciated the cooperation extended by Goldstein during her tenure in Nepal. 

Meanwhile, Secretary Subedi has briefed the mission from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on the progress made by Nepal to control money laundering, the statement said.
