Legal and Institutional Solutions Urged by DPM Shrestha to Counter Financial Crime

Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha has emphasized the necessity of legal and institutional reforms to combat financial crime during the Crime Investigation Review Seminar at the National Police Academy.

DPM Shrestha acknowledged the rise in financial crimes, particularly those involving cryptocurrency and foreign currency transactions, highlighting the need for capable human resources and legal provisions to address these challenges. DPM Shrestha also discussed the increasing cases of fraud in cooperatives turned financial institutions, noting the government's preparations to formulate laws to control cooperative fraud.

Attorney General Dr. Dinmani Pokharel called for a specialized structure to investigate financial crimes, emphasizing the importance of strengthening investigation, prosecution, and justice based on scientific evidence. Inspector General Basant Bahadur Kunwar mentioned the initiation of a specialized bureau within the police to address financial crimes.

Deputy-Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Sunita Dangol, stressed the importance of capacity building for Nepal Police to tackle digital crime challenges, with plans for cyber security training.
