Leadership dispute at NCC resolved

KATHMANDU, March 26:

Leadership dispute at Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) has finally been resolved.

The yearlong dispute was resolved after Suresh Basnet, the president of the dissolved executive committee, withdrew court case against the dissolution of the board.
The dispute had begun on the eve of NCC´s general assembly last year after some executive members objected to distribution of membership.

Surendra Bir Malakar, former president of NCC, said they have unanimously agreed to revive the Basnet-led executive committee. “The executive committee will now call organized the chamber´s general assembly within three months and hand over the leadership.

Speaking at a press meet on Tuesday, Basnet said the meeting of executive committee would be called at the earliest to announce the date for the general assembly. He also told media persons that he would not contest in the election for the new executive committee.

Basnet had moved the court after he failed to organize the general assembly due to objection of some executive members. The court, however, had scrapped the executive committee, pushing NCC into uncertainty.

“We decided to move ahead by forging consensus as we have realized that we cannot make progress being divided,” Basnet said.
Malakar said general members added by Basnet on the eve of NCC´s general assembly last year will not be eligible to cast votes.
