Lawmakers Urge Government Action on Housing, Discrimination, and Road Repairs in Parliament

Members of Parliament raised urgent local and national concerns during a House of Representatives meeting today, calling for immediate government action on housing, discrimination, financial oversight, and infrastructure.

Lawmaker Bhumika Subba urged the government to cancel a recent notice from the Department of Roads that orders the removal of private homes along the Mechi Highway. Subba highlighted that destroying these buildings would leave residents homeless, ruin their local hotel businesses, and cause widespread unemployment, leaving the community living in fear.

In the same session, other lawmakers brought forward separate pressing issues. Nita Ghatani spoke out against ongoing discrimination faced by the Dalit community in Kathmandu, while Gyan Bahadur Shahi called for a formal investigation into financial irregularities highlighted in the recent Auditor General's report. Additionally, Yashoda Kumari Baral urged the government to immediately repair and maintain several blocked sections of the Karnali Highway to safely restore traffic flow.
