Land acquisition for Rasuwa dry port to start soon

KATHMANDU, JAN 10: 

The Ministry of Commerce and Supplies will start the land acquisition process soon to construct a dry port at Rasuwa if conditions are favourable.

Inter Model Transport Development Committee has already carried out a feasibility study to construct a dry port in Rasuwa, said joint secretary at the ministry Naindra Prasad Upadhyay. “The ministry will initiate further plans based on the report of the committee.”

The ministry will start land acquisition process and other preparations if the committee recommends a suitable area for land acquisition, he informed.

The Syafrubesi-Rasuwagadhi road, that links Rasuwa to Kerung of Tibet Autonomous Region of China, has come into formal operation. The 16-kilometre long road was completed with a grant assistance of Rs 1.59 billion from the Chinese government. 

The Rasuwa-Kerung route will be another important trade hub between Nepal and China if the government can construct physical infrastructure, said Upadhyay, adding that Rasuwa is largely believed to be an alternative to the Tatopani trade point for trade activities with China.
