Korean Foreign Minister Promises Disaster and Climate Support Following Bhotekoshi Floods

Nepal's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shisir Khanal, held a bilateral meeting with South Korea's Foreign Minister, Cho Hyun, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Singha Durbar. The talks focused on ongoing search, rescue, and relief operations following the devastating flash flood on the Bhote Koshi River, alongside efforts to trace missing South Korean citizens. Minister Khanal thanked the South Korean government for sending a rapid response team, a disaster relief unit, and humanitarian aid.

Highlighting Nepal's focus on disaster recovery, Khanal emphasized rebuilding resilient, safe infrastructure under a "Build Back Better" framework and expressed confidence in South Korea's continued backing. In response, Foreign Minister Cho reaffirmed South Korea's commitment to supporting Nepal's reconstruction.

Cho also stressed that the global community bears a shared responsibility for climate driven disasters, committing to join Nepal in advocating for global climate awareness and financial support for vulnerable nations at international forums like the UN Climate Summit. Both leaders pledged to further strengthen bilateral ties and mutual cooperation moving forward.
