Kailash Sirohiya, Chairman of Kantipur Media Group (KMG), has been arrested on charges of misusing his citizenship certificates. The arrest took place on Tuesday at KMG's headquarters in Thapathali by a team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanuram Bhattarai and Superintendent of Police (SP) Rabindra Regmi.

The Dhanusha District Court had issued an arrest warrant for Sirohiya in connection with allegations of citizenship abuse. A complaint filed at the District Police Office in Dhanusha claimed that Sirohiya possessed two different citizenship certificates with identical numbers. The police investigation revealed that his citizenship number matched another individual's number, raising suspicions of fraudulent activity. Sirohiya had previously approached the Supreme Court seeking to cancel the arrest warrant, but his plea was not successful.

In a statement to the media following his arrest, Sirohiya contended that his detention was not related to the citizenship case but was a reaction to KMG's investigative reporting on cooperative frauds allegedly involving Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane. Sirohiya asserted that the arrest was an attempt to suppress KMG's critical news coverage.

On Wednesday morning, Sirohiya was brought to Janakpur and is currently being held at the Dhanusha District Police Office. The case continues to develop as authorities proceed with their investigation into the citizenship allegations against him.
