Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is taking steps to regulate the fees charged by private schools within its jurisdiction. The metropolis has issued a letter to all private schools within its boundaries, instructing them to submit the fee details for the upcoming academic session 2080/81 in classes 11 and 12 (+2). Currently, there are 520 private schools operating under the purview of the metropolis.

On Ashad 5, the metropolis sent a written communication to all schools, requesting them to provide the fee details by the end of Ashad. The metropolis emphasized that the schools should adhere to the guidelines outlined in Section 27 (9) of the Metropolitan Education Act 2075.

As per the metropolis' circular, the fee statement must be accompanied by a decision from the school management committee. Sitaram Koirala, Education Officer of the metropolis, highlighted that this is the first instance of regulating the fees for 'Plus Two' education, utilizing the authority granted by the Act, due to complaints about exorbitant fees charged by institutional schools.

According to the regulations, schools are required to submit their fee statements to the metropolis annually. However, after discovering that many schools have failed to comply, the metropolis has now set a specific deadline for submission," as informed by Education Officer Koirala.

It has been decided by the school management committee that the fee submitted to the metropolis will be considered as the final fee. Schools found charging higher fees than the approved amount will face consequences in accordance with the metropolis' regulations.
