Nepal's leading digital payment service provider, Khalti, has partnered with Fonepay Payment Service Ltd and NPCI International Payments Ltd (NIPL) in India to introduce cross-border payment capabilities through Khalti QR. This collaboration enables Indian tourists to make seamless transactions in Nepal by scanning Khalti QR codes with their preferred digital wallets such as Phonepay and BHIM UPI.

The initiative not only enhances the convenience of transactions for Indian tourists but also opens up new opportunities for Nepali merchants, particularly small and medium-sized businesses, to tap into the vast tourism market, with over 20,000 merchants accepting payments through Khalti's QR code technology.

Khalti's CEO, Mr. Binay Khadka, expressed delight in being the pioneer Nepali digital wallet offering international digital payment services. This move is expected to play a crucial role in fostering trade, tourism, and economic cooperation between Nepal and India, contributing to overall prosperity and development. Khalti, with its ISO 27001:2013 certification and numerous accolades, has completed seven years in operation, serving 4 million users and collaborating with a vast network of agents, merchants, banks, financial institutions, and more throughout Nepal.
