Kathmandu's Thamel and Durbarmarg to Operate 24/7 Under Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister's Directive

Under the stewardship of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, concerted efforts are underway to facilitate the uninterrupted operation of Kathmandu's iconic locales, Thamel and Durbarmarg, around the clock.

The District Administration Office of Kathmandu will be entrusted with the pivotal responsibility of ensuring security and comprehensive management of the designated areas. The District Security Committee is poised to meticulously orchestrate plans in alignment with this endeavor.

The Chief District Officer of Kathmandu, affirmed the commencement of internal preparations, assuring that the initiative will materialize at the latest by the advent of the new year (Baishakh 1) assuring of proper security measures, with plans for further refinement contingent upon proactive assessment and response to emerging challenges.

Drawing insights from the operational experiences of Thamel and Durbarmarg, the Ministry of Home Affairs is contemplating a phased extension of 24-hour operations to other tourist hubs. To this end, the Secretariat of the Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister has underscored ongoing coordination efforts with local administrations.
