Kathmandu Valley more expensive

KATHMANDU, June 1:
Kathmandu Valley has become expensive,whereas the Hills and Tarai has become cheaper, according to the central bank.

Region-wise, the price index in Kathmandu Valley has increased by 12.9 per cent followed by 11.9 per cent in Hills and 8.2 per cent in Tarai during the first nine months of the current fiscal year against the growth rates of 12.2 per cent, 15.1 per cent and 15.3 per cent in the same period of last fiscal.

Similarly, the y-o-y salary and wage rate index has also increased by almost double by 24.8 per cent compared to an increase of 13.9 per cent in the same period of the previous year, the central bank’s report said, adding that in the salary and wage rate indices, the salary index remained unchanged against the increase of 13.8 per cent in same period of last fiscal.

However, the overall salary and wage rate index increased mainly due to the increase in wage rate index. “The wage rate index increased by more than a double to 32.8 per cent compared to an increase of 14 per cent in the same period of the previous year,” it said.

The wages of agricultural, industrial and construction labourers have increased significantly in the first nine months of the current fiscal year. “The indices of wages of agricultural, industrial and construction labourers increased by 43.7 per cent, 14.1 per cent and 27.9 per cent, respectively.
