K-Water agrees to construct Upper Modi

KATHMANDU, MAR 28: 

The Korean Water Corporation (K-Water) and the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has signed a deal to produce around 47 MW power from Upper Modi 'A'.

Vice Chairman Baiyung Huner Yun of the K-Water and the NEA Officiating Managing Director, Tikaram BC, have agreed to forward the project through public private partnership concept, informed NEA amidst a function here today.

The agreement was signed at the presence of State Minister for Energy Suryaman Dong and Secretary Hariram Koirala. The project will be constructed at the border of Parbat and Kaski districts as per the concept of run of the river project.

As per the agreement, around 18.5 cusec water, needed for the construction of the project, will be taken to power house at Syaune Bazaar through 6,085 meter-long tunnel.

Similarly, a 7.5 km long 132 KV transmission line will be constructed to connect the power with the proposed New Modi Station.

The construction cost of the project has been estimated around 100 million US dollar.

NEA will have 20 percent share while K-Water has 80 percent share. The agreement has mention that the K-Water will provide 10 percent share from its part to local.
