Jha assures resumption of closed factories

Industry Minister Anil Kumar Jha has said the government will bring the now-closed Birjung Sugar Mill and Agriculture Tools Factory back into operation.

The board of directors formed by the government has started work on resuming these factories, said Minister Jha in a stakeholder meeting held on the sugar mill premises in Parsha on Tuesday.

He expressed confidence that Rajkumar Singh, chairman of the newly formed committee, would be able to run the factory well.

Jha also said the government was making utmost effort to resume other several government-owned industries like Butwal Spinning Mill and Hetauda Textile Factory too. “Formation of a board to resume Birgunj Sugar Mill is itself an achievement,” said Jha. “The government is now working on preparing a memorandum of association and memorandum of article.”

The committee was formed as per recommendation of the Public Enterprise Board.

Singh said the industries would be operated on the basis of private, cooperative or public-private partnership model. “We have already started work in this direction,” he said, adding it would not be difficult for the committee to trace out possibilities of resuming the industries as they were not closed due to unavailability of raw materials or failure to find market.

A team led by Jha and Singh made a visit to the industry and gathered information about the machineries.
