KATHMANDU, Nov 5:

Jewelry Fashion Show and Expo 2014 is beginning in the capital from Wednesday.

Organized by Nepal Gem and Jewelry Association (NGJA), the five-day event is divided into two parts -- a fashion show to promote local products in the first two days and jewelry exhibition on the remaining days.

The event is being organized at the Hotel Yak & Yeti with the slogan of ´Taking Nepalese Jewelry Globally´. The event is scheduled to be inaugurated by Minister for Information and Communications Minendra Rijal.

Organizing a press meet in the capital on Tuesday, officials of NGJA said the expo will play a crucial role in the promotion Nepali jewelry products and provide information to general public on issues related to purity of precious metals and quality of jewelries.

“Nepal is rich in precious stones. If the government takes initiative for exploration of these valuable products, expand their uses, establish a lab to certify purity of gold, and promote Nepali jewelries by developing a brand identity, it can find a reliable and long lasting source to earn foreign currency,” Manish Lal Pradhan, president of NGJA, said.

Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon is the major attraction of the event. According to the organizers, Raveena will walk down the ramp wearing different Nepali jewelries on Wednesday and Thursday.

Shakti Kumar Begani, coordinator of the event, said the expo will have altogether 35 stalls of local jewelry producers.

The organizers are expecting around 10,000 visitors.

´I WILL PROMOTE NEPALI JEWELRY PRODUCTS´

Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon told media persons that she is here to promote Nepali culture and jewelry products.

"I immediately said yes when the organizers requested me to participate in this event as both Nepal and jewelries are among my top priorities,” Tandon said, adding “Nepal has peculiar culture and tradition. My participation in the event will help to promote Nepali culture and tradition globally.”

Talking to Republica, Tandon said she would take many Nepali jewelry products and promote them in her homeland. She also said she was happy to have got the opportunity to visit the birthplace of Lord Buddha.
