Japanese support to Sindhuli agro project

KATHMANDU:

The government of Japan has agreed to extend financial assistance of USD 260,452 (approximately Rs 25.131 million) to the GLM Institute for a project in Sindhuli to improve livelihoods of farmers.

GLM Institute, in close coordination with a local NGO, Srijansil Welfare Society, will implement the two-year project titled ‘Improving Livelihoods of Farmers through Environmentally Harmonizing Agriculture in the Hill Areas of Sindhuli District,’ the Embassy of Japan said in a statement on Monday.

A contract on the project was signed and exchanged between Ambassador of Japan to Nepal, Kunio Takahashi, and Project Manager of GLM Institute, Wakana Nishiyama, on behalf of the respective sides today.

The GLM Institute has already implemented various agriculture related activities supported by the government of Japan.

“The grant which was signed today will be utilised to expand the project area to all nine wards to improve the livelihoods of people in Kuseswor Dumja VDC of Sindhuli district by introducing environmentally harmonising agricultural technology to local farmers,” the Embassy said.

Ambassador Takahashi reiterated the importance of agricultural development in rural Nepal while addressing the function organised to sign contract relating to the project.

He further expressed his belief that this project will benefit local farmers and contribute to improving the livelihoods of the people in the area.
