Japanese envoy meets Fin Min

KATHMANDU:

Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Kunio Takahashi paid farewell call on Minister for Finance Shanker Koirala on Monday.

Ambassador Takahashi expressed his dissatisfaction over the failure to complete the development projects on time, and urged the government to adopt an intervening role so as to accomplish the projects.

Expressing concern over the potential impacts on the flow of foreign aid due to absence of Parliament in Nepal, he expressed confidence over the possibility of increase of Japanese aid after the promulgation of new constitution, according to a statement issued by Koirala's office.

During the meeting at the Ministry of Finance in Singhadurbar complex, Minister Koirala had urged the Japanese government to increase its investment in energy and infrastructure development sectors in Nepal.

Koirala told the Japanese envoy that Japan’s support is expected in the construction of Katmandu-Hetauda Tunnel Highway.

He acknowledged Japan's support in various projects, including enhancement of Radar capacity in the Tribhuvan International Airport, Tanahun Hydro project and Melamchi Drinking Water project, and assured the Japanese enjoy that the government is doing its best for the financial management incorporating inputs from donor partners.

According to Takahashi, Japanese entrepreneurs are interested to invest in hydropower sector in Nepal provided there is an investment-friendly environment.
