The Indian coal mining tycoon Gautam Adani has become Asia’s richest person, not from coal mining, but expansion into green investments.

Adani Green Energy, his most valuable investment, enabled him to surpass Mukesh Ambani in the list of the richest billionaires after its share price almost doubled in the past 12 months.

According to Forbes Real-time Billionaires, Adani has a net worth of $89.5B. He is 10th on the list; Mukesh Ambani is 11th while Mark Zuckerberg is 13th, because of Meta selloff. With an almost $12 billion jump in his personal fortune, Adani is the world's biggest wealth-gainer this year.

Gautam Shantilal Adani is an Indian billionaire industrialist and philanthropist. He is the chairman and founder of the Adani Group, an Ahmedabad-based multinational conglomerate involved in port development and operations in India.

He founded Adani Group in 1988 and diversified his business into resources, logistics, energy, agriculture, defence, and aerospace, amongst others. His Adani Group controls the port of Mundra, India’s largest, in the mogul’s home state of Gujarat and he also owns 74% of Mumbai international airport.

While his green investment has brought him to light, his controversial Australian mine project has drawn strong criticism from climate activists including Greta Thunberg.
