IRD felicitates best taxpayers of mid-western region

KATHMANDU, April 7 :

The Internal Revenue Department (IRD) has felicitated four best taxpayers under its regional office in Nepalgunj.

The felicitation is a part of IRD´s ongoing campaign to felicitate taxpayers making significant contribution in national economy for the fiscal year 2012/13.

At a function organized jointly by IRD Nepalgunj and Nepalgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI), the department felicitated Bishnu Mainali of Banke-based Bheri Financial Cooperative, Karna Bahadur Sinjali of Surkhet-based Kakrebihar Development Bank, Nirmal Prasad Acharya of Bardiya-based Janjyoti English Boarding School, and Madhav Adhikari of Dailekh-based Raju Enterprises.

Speaking at the program, Tanka Mani Sharma, director general of IRD, said the department was working toward making the taxation system simple by amending tax related laws. “The department will make the taxation system simpler by the coming fiscal year by making necessary amendment to tax laws and regulations and through strict enforcement of such laws,” he added. He also said the government would act tough against individuals or firms involved in illegal activities like evading taxes, issuing fake VAT bill, and not issuing invoice at all to customers.

“We have full trust on taxpayers. But if they are found involved in foul play, they will be dealt with severely,” he warned.

Similarly, Sharma also felicitated Kanhaiya Lal Baidhya - the first businessperson from the region to register with VAT.

Rajendra Prasad Sharma, deputy director general of IRD, said the department had launched awareness program across the country to bring more individuals and businesses into the tax net. He also urged the taxpayers to approach the IRD offices if they face any hassle while clearing their tax liability.

Speaking at the program, felicitated taxpayers said the government honor would encourage them to contribute more to the national economy. Padam Shahi, president of Surkhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Dan Bahadur Thapa, president of Dailekh Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Puspa Raj Baral, vice president of Bardiya Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and Abdul Waid Mansuri, acting president of NCCI urged the government to simplify taxation process and intensify taxpayer education program to bring more people into the tax net.
