Immigration office opened at Rasuwagadhi customs
RASUWA, Nov 18:
The government has opened Immigration Office in the premises of Rasuwagadhi Customs Office in Rasuwa district.
Now onwards, people do not have to travel to district headquarters Dhunche to get a daylong pass to visit Keirung in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. The pass can be issued from the immigration office itself.
"Along with immigration works, other works related to customs can now be carried out from the border point itself," Uddhav Prasad Bhattarai, Chief District Officer (CDO) of Rasuwa, told Republica. “We have already informed the Chinese officials that our immigration office has started operation at the border point."
According to Bhattarai, the immigration office will play a crucial role in enhancing and promoting trade and business activities and also facilitate people´s movement between Nepal and China. "We have been informed that the Chinese government will open its immigration office near the border point within a week," he added.
Chinese government has already completed initial works to set up immigration office. A Nepal-China meeting held earlier in Keirung had agreed to open Rasuwagadhi transit point for trade and other purposes.
Citing infrastructure shortcomings in the Nepali side, China had postponed the test run of the transit point couple of months ago.
"We are hopeful that China will soon open its immigration office and formally open the Keirung transit point,” added Bhattarai.
Babulal Tamang, president of Civil Society, Rasuwa, said the opening of immigration office will facilitate movement of traders, tourists and other visitors across the border. "As one can easily get daylong pass to visit Keirung from the immigration office, people´s movement in Rasuwagadhi will increase significantly," he added.
