Hydel project idle for for want of repair

A small hydropower project at Kanakasundari VDC in Jumla has been dysfunctional for the last 18 years for want of maintenance.

Hadsinja Hydropower Project (15KW) was developed at the cost of Rs 1.5 million some 20 years ago to supply power to ward no 5, 6 and 7 of the village. The project, however, could run for just two years.“”The project was damaged during the conflict and is yet to be repaired”” said Dhanlal Hamal, former chairman of the District Development Committee.

More than 250 households of the village will get electricity if the project is repaired. Narbajung Hamal, a local, said the villagers made repeated calls to DDC and authorities concerned in Kathmandu to repair the project, but to no avail.
