KATHMANDU,JAN 6:

A spinning mill providing direct employment to 470 people in Panauti Municipality of Kavre district has shut down for the past six months.

BB Wool and Spinning Mill established some 13 years ago was producing yarns from the sheep wool. Proprietor of the factory, Bam Bahadur Gurung, said that he was forced to shut down the factory due to lack of human resources after the workers left for gulf countries for job while female workers opted for other job opportunities.

He, however, said that the demand for the yarn is so high despite the closure of the factory. Gurung added that the workers should be hired from other sectors if he were to reopen the factory.

Gurung said the women quit the factory after they were paid high in the market areas despite the factory had paid them on hourly-basis.

Some female workers of the factory are involved in vegetable farming and construction companies.
