Huawei Digital Nepal Conclave 2023 gets started; PM Dahal inaugurates amid grand opening

Huawei MNC Digital Nepal Conclave 2023 has started. The largest digital conference of the year has started in Kathmandu, organized by ICT Foundation Nepal.

Communications and Information Technology Minister; Rekha Sharma is present as a special guest at the Huawei MNC Digital Nepal Conclave 2023, which started with the Prime Minister. Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' as the chief guest.

Also the guests for the event were Krishna Bahadur Raut; Secretary of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, former Minister Ganesh Shah, Nepal Telecommunication Authority Chairman Purushottam Khanal, CAN Federation Chairman; Ranjit Poddar, Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industry Senior Vice President; Anjan Shrestha and other senior officials of the Government of Nepal, representatives of partner organizations, national And international speakers, personalities working in the field of information technology, etc. are present.

Giving a welcome speech for the event, Razan Lamsal, President of ICT Foundation Nepal and Chairman of the program, said that the 2-day conclave is being organized as an effort to measure digital capabilities for digital transformation.

Addressing at the same event, Chief Guest Mr. Dahal said that it is important to emphasize on infrastructure to develop digital capacity.

He informed that the government has arranged that 1 percent of the total capital budget will be spent on research and development through the budget announcement of the next fiscal year for the promotion of research, innovation, startups and entrepreneurship.

Stating that the government has emphasized on reducing the digital divide and digital economy, the Prime Minister said that necessary policies for the development of information technology will be implemented soon.

Speaking at the Fire Side Power Sambad of a similar program, Information and Communication Minister Rekha Sharma said that with the development of information technology in Nepal recently, there has also been a change in thinking.

"Initially, information technology was considered as a means of entertainment," she said, "now that thinking has changed." It is said that information technology is not only for entertainment but also for production and digital economy.

He claims that the government is working to make information technology accessible to all citizens and that the ministry is working to formulate and revise the necessary policies for the development of this sector.

Similarly, Nepal Telecommunication Authority; Chairman, Purushottam Khanal said that information technology is important for the development of every nation with the rapid development of technology and Nepal is not exempt from it.

Huawei South Asia Regional Office; President, Peter Pan said that Huawei will support Digital Nepal.

In the 2-day conclave, there are more than 70 resource persons including ICT experts from different countries, and 15 sessions will be conducted on 6 different topics. Subject matter experts from South Korea, Singapore, India, Bangladesh are present in the conclave. From this, experts will also present a working paper.

In the inaugural session, Dilip Agarwal, President of World Link, presented a paper on Digital Capabilities, Chang Hak Choi on Digital Policy Capabilities, and Lee Yun Seng, Senior Industry Solutions Expert of Huawei Asia Pacific region. As well as MoCIT Secretary Krishna Bahadur Raut presented the presentation paper.

After the conclusion of the opening session, the panel session will begin. Sessions on digital infrastructure, digital identity and digital governance will be conducted in the first day session.

The conclave being held under the slogan of 'Fostering Digitally Sakshyam Nepal' will emphasize Nepal's capability for digital transformation and the necessary policies and implementation for it.

Along with the conclave, Huawei, the top sponsor, is organizing the Mobile Nepal Congress as a mini Mobile World Congress in a separate hall. Participants in Mobile Nepal Congress will get information about 5G, AI along with new technologies in Mobile Congress.
