House of Representatives Passes Appropriation Bill 2083 with Majority Vote

The House of Representatives (HoR) has passed the Appropriation Bill, 2083, with a majority vote.

Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle had tabled a proposal seeking passage of the Bill, which was endorsed by a majority of votes in Thursday’s parliamentary meeting.

Earlier, Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal presented Chapters 2 to 11 of the Bill for consideration before the voting process.

During the session, lawmakers including Kriparam Rana, Parbati BK, Jog Kumar Barbariya Yadav, Santosh Subba, Nita Ghatani, Parashuram Tamang, Arjun Kumar Karki, Narendra Kumar Kerung, Ramesh Kumar Malla, Sajida Khatun Siddiqui, Yubraj Dulal, Yashoda Kumari Baral, Guru Prasad Baral, Mohammad Istiyak Rai, Balawati Sharma, Bishnu Maya BK, Yagya Bahadur Bogati, Ain Bahadur Mahar, Pushparaj Kandel, and Padma Kumari Aryal had proposed cuts in the expenditure allocations outlined in the Appropriation Bill. However, their proposals were rejected by a majority vote.

Finance Minister Wagle had presented the national budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2083/84 during a joint session of the federal parliament on May 29.

Subsequently, detailed deliberations on budget allocations under various headings, including the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, ministries, and commissions, were held in the HoR meetings on June 15 and 16. Relevant ministers also responded to lawmakers’ queries on June 17 and 18.

The next meeting of the House of Representatives has been scheduled for Friday, June 19.
