Home Minister Sudan Gurung has warned officials and employees under the Ministry of Home Affairs and its agencies against sharing confidential or sensitive information with unauthorized individuals or organizations. Gurung said access to state information comes with public responsibility and does not give anyone the right to misuse it.

Gurung made the remarks in a social media post today, saying even small pieces of information, clues or confidential details can be important in preventing crime, supporting investigations and establishing facts about serious incidents. He said anyone who deliberately misuses state confidential information and betrays the country or their organization will not be spared and will be brought under the law.

His warning comes a day after Armed Police Force AIG Banshiraj Dahal was suspended over allegations of leaking sensitive security related information and violating official conduct. The Home Ministry has formed an investigation team and instructed it to complete the inquiry and submit its report within three days. The ministry has not disclosed the specific information Dahal is accused of leaking.
