Himalayan Bank enables NEPALPAY QR in its HI-MB; MoBanking customers can now make more convenient QR payment
Himalayan Bank Limited (HBL) has successfully integrated NEPALPAY QR in its mobile banking (HI-MB), such that its customers can now scan and initiate QR-based payments available at various merchants and payment gateway. HBL has also initiated acquiring aggregated merchants for multiple QRs including NEPALPAY, Visa, UnionPay, and Alipay using its own merchant management system thereby enabling merchant level interoperability as per NRB’s NepalQR standards.
NEPALPAY QR is an implementing infrastructure of NepalQR standard issued by Nepal Rastra Bank and operated by NCHL as part of the National Payment Switch. The infrastructure allows to work as an independent scheme and facilitates interoperability of QR at the merchant and network level. HBL is one of the first banks to join National Payment Switch and the first to enable NEPALPAY QR as an aggregated QR. While the business customers of HBL can now be enrolled as merchants to manage their receivables from their customers using HBL’s mobile banking or any other instruments enabled with NEPALPAY QR.
The enablement of QR in the mobile banking of HBL and acquiring of aggregated QR is expected to further increase the digital transactions at retail level, which has always been the major focus for the bank. HBL currently issues Visa, Mastercard, Amex, UnionPay, SCT card brands and acquires transactions of Visa, MasterCard, American Express, UnionPay, JCB, SCT brand cards. It has 152 ATMs and 5000 POS across Nepal.
