Govt to monitor large projects

KATHMANDU, MAR 13 -

Energy Minister Post Bahadur Bogati on Monday said that the ministry would start proactive monitoring of large hydro-power projects, labeled as national priority projects, in order to complete their construction on stipulated time.

“The ministry knew the problems of some of the projects at the last hour. The issue of Kulekhani III and Chameliya reached to the ministry when their contractors issued ultimatum to cancel the contract,” Bogati told a press meet at Energy Ministry on Monday. “Now onward, ministry will proactively monitor the progress of the national priority projects.”

Bogati also said that the government would ensure those projects would not suffer from resource crunch. He also expressed optimism that the Parliament’s Natural Resource Committee would give its consent on memorandum of understanding (MoU) on West Seti Project. “The development of West Seti will be milestone for attracting foreign investments in hydropower sector,” claimed Bogati.

 He said the ministry has requested for proposal to six foreign firms for Budhi Gandaki Hydropower Project.
