Govt suspends operation of two firms, seals another

KATHMANDU, Jan 19: The government has suspended operations of two firms and scrapped the license of another after they were found selling substandard products.

Market inspectors deployed by the Department of Commerce and Supply Management (DoCSM) on Friday suspended operations of Subash Gupta Sweet Shop at Teku and Kastamandav Khadya Udhyog at Kuleshwor while it scrapped the license of Shree Rosy Products of Teku.

“We found these firms selling unhygienic and outdated products,” Hari Narayan Belbase, director at DoCSM told Republica.
The market monitoring team found Shree Rosy Products using unhygienic raw materials in the production of sauce. Moreover, the production area was filthy.

“We had already questioned the production process of the firm and had suspended operations of Shree Rosy Products three months back. But we again found the firm involved in production of sauce, boycotting department´s direction,” Belbase said, adding that the license of the firm has bee scrapped.

Market inspectors also have suspended operations of Subash Gupta Sweet Shop of Teku and Kastamandav Khadya Udhyog Kuleshwor as these eateries were found selling unhygienic sweets.

Report issued by DoCSM reads that the production area of these firms was filthy, while the products being sold were outdated.
“We will take a strong action against these firms,” said Belbase.

Meanwhile, DoCSM has directed these firms to furnish clarification within a week. “We will not allow operations of these firms unless they make improvements in production process,” added Belbase.

The department on the day had inspected other three sweet shops and eateries in the Valley. Shree Jhigu Mari Sweet Shop of Kalimati, Shree Nathani Sweet Sweet Shop and Lumbini Bhojanalaya of Kuleshwor were also found selling unhygienic products.
