Govt set to extend extra facilities to CIPs
KATHMANDU, JAN 24 -
The government is all set to extend a number of facilities in addition the existing ones to persons and organisations honoured with Commercially Important Persons ( CIP s).
Two of the new facilities being added are priority rights to meet high-level government officials and SAARC Sticker Visa to visit the SAARC member states without any hassles.
Other facilities included in the working procedures which have been approved by the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies are
permission to use VIP lounge at the Tribhuvan International Airport, special invitations in the events to be organised by the government.
The CIP s will be provided with special identity cards that will entitle them to enjoy the state facilities for two years. In the case of foreign CIP s, they will receive multiple-entry visa on arrival in Nepal for 15, 30 or 90 days.
The government is preparing a list of facilities to honour 34 individuals, associations and companies shortlisted for the CIP under 15 different categories.
President Ram Baran Yadav is scheduled to honour them on Monday.
“It is the first time that we are providing the facility based on certain guidelines,” said Abha Shrestha, under secretary at the ministry. “Earlier, facilities had been provided based on the recommendation of the Trade and Export Promotion Centre (TEPC).”
The government had formed a 10-member sub-committee under the TEPC chief for the purpose, with the MoCS untaking the role of the secretariat.
The government is preparing to honour businessmen contributing to the country with high export, foreign exchange earnings, investment and tax contribution with the CIP in every two years.
Based on the ministry’s guidelines for selection of CIP s, the TEPC initially recommended the names of 35 candidates. The ministry upon a cross examination of the candidates’ credentials decided to honour 34.
Ministry said that the associations also selected based on the contribution of their grouping to the national economy.
Presidents of various business bodies including the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the Confederation of Nepalese Industries will also be honoured with CIP .
Under Secretary Shrestha said the government will scrap the CIP of any individual found to have been involved in morally decayed activities including corruption.
