Govt Launches Lottery Scheme: Win NPR 1 Lakh to NPR 10 Lakh for Demanding Bills

The Government of Nepal has introduced a new incentive program aimed at encouraging consumers to demand tax invoices whenever they purchase goods or services. Under the newly issued "Taxpayer Incentive Gift Scheme Guidelines, 2083," shoppers who ask for bills can now participate in a lottery offering cash prizes ranging from NPR 133,034 to NPR 10 Lakhs.

To promote a tax compliant shopping culture, the Inland Revenue Department will run daily and bi-weekly reward draws. Daily winners stand a chance to win NPR 133,034, while bumper prize winners can receive up to NPR 1 million.

Tax Deduction and Payout Process

In accordance with Section 88A of the Income Tax Act, 2058, a 25% windfall tax will be deducted from the prize amount. The Inland Revenue Department will deposit the net cash reward directly into the winner's bank account within 10 days once all required documents are verified.

Unclaimed Prizes

If a winner fails to claim their cash reward within the specified timeframe, the guidelines state that the full prize amount will be transferred to the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund.

Both digital and traditional paper bill receipts are eligible for the program. Consumers can enter the lottery by registering their bill details on the official Inland Revenue Department system after completing a purchase. Government officials hope this campaign will curb tax evasion by making invoice requests a regular habit among consumers across the country.
