Government Plans AI-Driven Digital System to Strengthen Public Finance Transparency
The government has announced plans to promote an artificial intelligence (AI) based digital economy with the objective of enhancing transparency, accountability, and security in public financial management systems.
Through the endorsement of the Good Governance Blueprint 2026, the newly formed government under Balendra Shah has outlined its commitment to fully digitize key state mechanisms. These include the budget information system, integrated tax system, customs system, and treasury management operations.
Officials state that the adoption of advanced digital technologies will streamline government processes, reduce inefficiencies, and improve real-time monitoring of public expenditures and revenue collection.
Supporting this initiative, a study report prepared by a panel led by Joint Secretary Than Prasad Pangyani at the Ministry of Finance Nepal highlights strong potential for transforming the country’s economic administration through the use of AI and big data. The report emphasizes that data-driven governance could significantly improve decision-making, risk assessment, and fiscal discipline.
