Government Appoints Three International Experts to National Trust for Nature Conservation
The government has appointed three world renowned experts to the governing board of the National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC). Geeta Chaudhary, the Minister for Agriculture, Forests, and Environment, who also chairs the NTNC made the appointments to boost the organization's international reputation and advance its scientific conservation efforts. The three new board members all have deep historical or academic ties to wildlife preservation in Nepal.
The first appointee, Lord Camoys (William Stoner), is a member of the UK House of Lords and chair of the UK Nepal Trust. Coming from a family with long standing diplomatic ties to Nepal, he continues to support the country's wildlife through British charity work. The second member, Dr. Eric Dinerstein, is a prominent scientist who conducted groundbreaking research on tigers and one-horned rhinos in Chitwan National Park during the 1970s and 1980s, and later served as the Chief Scientist for the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) for 25 years.
The third appointee, Professor Dr. Wendy Wright, is a former dean at Federation University in Australia. For the past decade, she has led hands on academic partnerships in Nepal, bringing Australian students to the country to help preserve local forests and find ways to reduce conflicts between humans and wild animals. With the NTNC successfully managing community-led nature conservation for over 40 years, these new international appointments are expected to significantly strengthen the organization's future policies and strategic goals.
