Gorkha Brewery bags NS Quality Award for 2011

Gorkha Brewery bagged Nepal Standard (NS) Quality Award 2011 for its production Carlsberg beer.

Secretary of Ministry of Industry Shankar Koirala handed over the award to production manager Surendra Silwal of the brewery at Nepal Bureau of Standard and Meteorology on the occasion of 42th World Quality Day in Kathmandu today.

The bureau honoured four other industries including Pro-Biotech Industries and Crystal Products in medium and small scale industries category respectively.

The industries got the quality award for quality production in poultry feed and High-density polyethylene pipe.

Likewise, Hulas Wire Industries and Swastik Oil received letter of appreciation for quality Galvanised Iron wire and refined soyabean oil.

World communities celebrated the Quality Day today with the slogan – International Standard: Creating Confidence Globally.

On the occasion, executive director of Pro-Biotech Ananda Bagaria urged the government to honour quality industries and punish those produce substandard goods.

Similarly, owner of Crystal Products Hari Simkhada asked the bureau to start consumer campaign about Nepal Standard. “Consumers do not have knowledge about NS mark, so market of NS products are limited to some educated people only,” he said, urging regular and effective monitoring of NS certified companies and products.

“We are not satisfied with monitoring system of the bureau,” he said, asking the bureay to monitor regularly. The bureau is provided NS marks to industries meeting quality criteria set by the government.
