Golyan Honored for Continuing Lifelong Support to Gen Z Martyr's Families
The Gen Z Sahid Pariwar Kalyankari Samaj honored Golyan Group Chairman and Managing Director Akshay Golyan at a ceremony in Kathmandu on Tuesday, marking one year since the Gen Z movement, in the presence of Home Minister Sudhan Gurung.
Golyan Group, through the Golyan Foundation, has been providing scholarships up to grade 12 and lifetime health insurance to the families of those killed in the movement, a commitment announced a month after the movement on Ashoj 24, 2082. So far, the foundation has given scholarships to 31 children from 22 martyr families and annual health insurance worth Rs. 10 lakh to 43 parents. The foundation spends roughly Rs. 2.5 crore a year on the two programs.
Speaking at the event, Golyan said the commitment to the martyrs' families was permanent, not tied to any single year or event. He said the sacrifice of the martyrs would not be forgotten and that building the country the martyrs envisioned safe, progressive and just was now the responsibility of the living.
Under the scholarship scheme, students receive up to Rs. 40,000 a month, or a maximum of Rs. 4.8 lakh a year, covering tuition, food, hostel, transport, extracurricular activities, admission and administrative fees, books, stationery and uniforms. Recipients are enrolled in schools including Euro School, Trijyoti Secondary School and Golden Peak School in Kathmandu, DAV Sushil Kedia Vishwa Bharati School in Lalitpur, Green Field World School in Jhapa, Small Heaven Model School in Chitwan, Early Childhood Academy in Pokhara, Scholars Home Boarding High School in Butwal, Minland Secondary School in Sunsari, and School of Scholars in Lahan.
Chitwan's Aakriti Rai, the eldest among the scholarship recipients, passed her SEE exams in 2082, while three younger children began school the same year, Golyan will fund Rai's education for three more years and the younger three for roughly 15 years.
According to Foundation CEO and Golyan Group's Corporate Affairs and Communications Head Jyoti Gaihre, the health insurance covers martyrs' parents not included in the scholarship program, with a lump-sum annual cover of Rs. 10 lakh for life. In its first year, the insurance has paid out about Rs. 8 lakh in claims, the largest around Rs. 4 lakh for the treatment of Kritiballav Panta.
