The price of gold has lost Rs. 800 per tola today.

According to the official website of the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers' Association, fine gold is being traded today at Rs. 93,000 per tola. Yesterday, the rate was maintained at Rs. 93,800 per tola. Meanwhile, Tejabi gold is being traded at Rs. 92,500 today. In contrast, the rate was maintained yesterday at Rs. 93,300 per tola.

On the sideline, silver has also lost Rs. 10 per tola today. The lustrous white metal is being traded in the local market today at Rs. 1,235 per tola, compared to yesterday's closing rate of Rs. 1,245 per tola.

Now, a 100% cash margin is required for the import of gold and silver. This is a result of Nepal Rastra Bank's tightened policy to discourage import at a time when the economy is facing a liquidity shortage. Previously, importers could import gold and silver with only a portion of total import value as the margin, and the rest could be leveraged via financial institutions.
