Germany infuses Rs 1.75 B aid for energy

KATHMANDU, JUNE 22:

The Government of the Federal Republic of Germany has agreed to provide a grant assistance of Euro 14 million (equivalent to NRs. 1.75 billion) for the implementation of the project 'Promotion of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energies Programme.

The project that will be implemented under partnership of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment would be invested on installing solar PV systems including solar water pumps in rural areas of Nepal, and extension of power transmission infrastructure in Trishuli Corridor.

German Ambassador to Nepal, Frank Meyke, and Joint Secretary at the Ministry, Madhu Kumar Marasini, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective governments amidst a programme here at the Ministry of Finance, today.

During the programme, German Ambassador to Nepal, Meyke said Germany was committed to supporting for the socio-economic development of Nepal, adding that the bilateral assistance would be further extended after the completion of the Constituent Assembly (CA) election.

Germany has given priority to the energy sector development, which is the back bone of the economic development of Nepal.

At the programme, Joint Secretary Marasini appreciated Germany's assistance for the national development since 1958, once Nepal-Germany diplomatic ties was established and expressed his hope that the countries would have further mutual cooperation in the days ahead.
