Gauchan elected new FCAN president
KATHMANDU:
Sharad Kumar Gauchan has been elected new president of Federation of Contractors’ Associations of Nepal (FCAN), the apex body of Nepali contractors.
He secured 418 votes in the election held on Sunday against 284 votes by his opponent Rabi Singh. Similarly, Hom Nath Koirala, another candidate for the post, secured five votes.
Prior to being elected to the top post, Gauchan of Danfe Construction Company was the general secretary of the executive committee of FCAN.
The contractors’ federation said the newly elected executive members will take oath amid a programme on Tuesday. In the new executive committee, Bhishnu Bhai Shrestha has been elected senior vice president.
According to Gauchan, the new team under his leadership would work for unity of contractors, ensuring that work is available to all contractors irrespective of categories, while the related laws would be updated.
“There is big problem of low bidding and mainly small contractors are facing difficulty in sector due to lack of relevant laws,” he said.
Contractors from across the country had gathered in Kathmandu for the 17th annual general meeting and election of the new executive committee. Altogether 721 contractors had cast their votes in the election, out of 724 listed voters.
Ram Sharan Deuja and Roshan Dahal have been elected to the posts of general secretary and treasurer. Nicolas Pandey has been elected associate vice-president. Tej Kumar Kurumbang has been elected vice president for eastern region, Pemba Lama Sherpa (central), Rudra Sharma (western), Laxman Kumar Rana (mid-western), and Bhim Bahadur Saud for far-western region.
