In a surprising turn of events in Kathmandu Constituency-3, Raju Nath Pandey has emerged victorious, securing almost 19,000 votes from Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), while Kulman Ghising, the former Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority and a prominent political figure from Ujyalo Nepal Party (Bulb), managed just over 11,000 votes. Ghising, widely recognized for his pivotal role in Nepal’s power sector reforms, had previously served as a minister in three key portfolios following the Zen Z movement, including Energy, water Resource and Irrigation along with Urba Development and Physical Infrastructure and Transport making his loss even more unexpected.
Raju Nath Pandey, known for his strong grassroots work and engagement with youth and local communities, has been active as a KMC Police Chief. His victory reflects a shift in voter sentiment towards new leadership, as voters opted for fresh representation over established political figures. The result marks a notable change in Kathmandu’s political landscape, emphasizing the growing influence of emerging leaders in Nepal’s parliamentary elections.
