Kristina Shakya, a hospitality professional with nearly two decades of experience, is emerging as an inspiring figure in Nepal’s growing hospitality sector, where women are increasingly stepping into leadership roles. Born in Kathmandu, she pursued higher education in Australia in 2008 and built extensive experience in global hospitality, working with renowned international hotels such as InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, Sheraton Hotels and Resorts, and Stamford Hotels.

After returning to Nepal in 2018, she held key leadership roles at prominent hotels including Dwarika's Hotel, Rupakot Resort, Hotel Malla, and Hilton Kathmandu. She is currently serving as Executive Assistant Manager at Nigalo Hotel and also teaches hotel management at GATE College.

Shakya says Nepal’s hospitality sector still faces challenges, including limited recognition of international experience, societal attitudes toward women in leadership and night shifts, trade union politics, and the growing trend of skilled hospitality graduates leaving Nepal for opportunities abroad. Despite spending years overseas, she returned with the belief that Nepal offers strong opportunities for local talent if properly utilized.
