Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba has emphasized that Nepal’s development is being hindered by a culture of negativity and pessimism, both within the country and among the Nepali diaspora.

Speaking at a reception organized by the Nepali People's Liaison Committee in Tokyo on Thursday, Minister Deuba criticized the widespread mentality of disbelief and hopelessness that she believes is obstructing the nation’s progress.

"Negative thinking like 'nothing will happen' or 'this is not possible' is deeply rooted and propagated across political circles, society, and even among Nepalis living abroad. Such a mindset will never lead us to national or societal development," she stated.

Highlighting the lack of recognition for positive efforts, Dr. Deuba remarked, "Even when good work is done, it rarely gets acknowledged. Everyone seems more interested in negative publicity to go viral. This is not how a country progresses."

She urged the global Nepali community to shift from such thinking and engage in constructive and collaborative nation-building efforts. "The Nepali diaspora has immense potential. If united, it can become a formidable force in advocating for its rights and contributing to national growth," she said.

Addressing internal divisions within the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), Dr. Deuba called for unity and cooperation. She clarified that the recent NRNA convention was conducted in compliance with a Supreme Court directive and that the new executive committee was formed through consensus.

The Foreign Minister also appealed to overseas Nepalis to invest their knowledge, skills, and capital in Nepal’s development. "We have created a dedicated department in the ministry to offer consular support and facilitate engagement with the diaspora. Additionally, we have established a branch focusing on economic diplomacy to mobilize the resources of the global Nepali community," she noted.

Minister Deuba concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to working closely with the diaspora and called for their active participation in shaping Nepal’s future.
