Fonepay and Alipay+ Unite to Power Cross-Border QR Payments in Nepal

Fonepay, Nepal’s leading Payment System Operator, has partnered with Alipay+ to enable cross-border QR payments, marking a major milestone in Nepal’s digital transformation and tourism growth. Announced in Kathmandu with representatives from Nepal Rastra Bank, Alipay+, Nepal Tourism Board, and the business community, the integration allows travelers from over 11 countries, including China, South Korea, Malaysia, and Germany, to pay at 1.7 million Fonepay QR-enabled merchants using popular e-wallets like Alipay, KakaoPay, GCash, and TrueMoney.

This initiative enhances convenience for tourists, eliminates cash handling, and expands market access for local merchants. Leaders from both organizations emphasized that the partnership will boost tourism, support SMEs, strengthen cross-border trade, and promote financial inclusion. Beyond payments, the move is expected to deepen cultural and economic ties between Nepal and the Asia-Pacific region, contributing to economic resilience and modernization.
