KATHMANDU, June 21:

Federation of Nepal Cottage and Small Industries (FNCSI) has urged the government to allot sufficient budget to initiate collective branding.

During a press meet at its premises today, president of FNCSI Lata Pyakurel urged the government to support the collective branding programme organised by different chapters of the federation.

“We need a system of collective branding to maintain quality in our products,” said Pyakurel. “Cottage and small scale industries also need special programmes, therefore, the government should develop a package programme as mentioned in the Industrial Policy 2067,” she said.

During the press meet, Pyakurel also informed about FNCSI’s annual programmes. FNCSI will organise the 12th Cottage Industries Fair and National Industrial Exhibition on December 6–10 this year. It plans to organise its 20th National Convention and 18th National Women Entrepreneurs Seminar on September 11 and 12 respectively in Kathmandu.

She further stressed on the need for an investment preservation fund for micro, cottage and small-scale industrialists to help them avail easy financing facility. “There is also a need to add more industrial clusters and corridors, and sufficient budget for the construction and management of a Special Economic Zone,” she said.

According to FNCSI president Pyakurel, the government should also waive the customs duty during the import of machinery and equipment required for micro, cottage and small scale industries. FNCSI has also formed a task force under the coordination of its general secretary Shyam Prasad Giri to work for the development and promotion of industries under the Federation of Nepal Cottage and Small Industries.
