KATHMANDU, Aug 21:

The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce an Industry (FNCCI) has invited representatives of Devayani International Nepal - local franchisee of KFC, Pizza Hut and Cream Bell - and workers for talks on Tuesday.

It had called the two sides for talks on Friday as well. But the talks could not take place after Devyani International Nepal cold-shouldered the call.

Devyani International Nepal had announced indefinite closure of KFC, Pizza Hut and Cream Bell outlets in Nepal last week, stating that workers had manhandled the managerial staff. Workers, however, have been refuting the claims, saying that the management closed the outlets unilaterally after the workers decided to form a trade union.

“Nobody from the management showed up in the meeting on Friday,” Nawaraj Bhatta, president of ad-hoc committee of All Nepal Hotel and Restaurant Workers Union-Revolutionary (ANHRWU-R), said. “We have been requesting the management to sit for talks, but it is turning a deaf ear to our request.”

Devyani International Nepal operates Pizza Hut, KFC and Cream Bell outlets at Durbar Marg, and KFC and Pizza Hut Delivery (PHD) at Blue Bird Mall, Tripureshwar. It employs 180 persons.
