FNCCI forms committees, appoints chairpersons

KATHMANDU, JUN 02 - A meeting of the office bearers of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) held on Sunday has formed 15 committees and nominated their chairpersons.

There are three completely new committees in the line-up — Urban Development, Local Economic Development and International and Non-Resident Nepalis (NRN). FNCCI Senior Vice-Chairman Pashupati Murarka said that the new committees had been added as per the country’s changed context.

“The Urban Development Committee has been formed in a bid to contribute to managed urbanization in the country,” he added. “As the private sector has been involved in managed urbanization through real estate enterprises, it has been felt necessary to form this committee.”  

Likewise, he said that the Local Economic Development Committee

had been established to

help the FNCCI’s local chambers to promote economic activities at the local level. “The NRN Committee has been formed to enable increased investment by NRNs in the country,” said Murarka.

The FNCCI has named Om Bahadur Rajbhandary as the chairperson of the Urban Development Committee, Chandra Prasad Dhakal as the chairperson of the International and NRN Committee and Pramod Shrestha as the chairperson of the Local Economic Development Committee.

The statute of the FNCCI has provisioned the formation of nine committees compulsorily and has allowed the formation of another six committees.

The three committees which are not compulsory

are the Export Promotion Committee, Energy Committee and Trade Fair Committee. The other regular committees that have been formed are the Industry Committee, Trade Committee, Cottage and Small Industries Committee, Women Entrepreneurs Development Committee, Land Transport and Transit Committee, Tax and Revenue Committee, Tourism and Aviation Committee with rights to look after cultural issues, Information and Communication Technology Development Committee and Banking, Financial and Insurance Committee.

The apex body of the private sector has also appointed the chairpersons of the regular committees.

It said that all the committees and chairpersons had been selected on the basis

of consensus.
