Flying Squads mobilise revenue

Department of Revenue Investigation has collected around Rs 17.5 million during the one month of deployment of Flying Squad, according to director general Shanta Bahadur Shrestha.
“The amount has been collected after revaluation of small enterprises and firms,” Shrestha said, adding that the department is currently investigating the large-scale revenue evading cased raided by the squads.
“The department is optimist of collecting around Rs 20 million more from large companies whose accounts are under scanner,” he informed. The department will complete the investigation soon and fix the actual amount, Shrestha added.
Department of Revenue Investigation had in the end of April formed two separate Flying Squads to curb revenue leakages across the country. Both Flying Squads had come into the operation from the first week of June.
The squads — formed under Revenue Leakage (Investigation and Control) Act and entrusted with the right to confiscate any vehicle, goods and check accounts of firms and other business houses at any time, if they are suspicious — were deployed in the western and eastern part of the country.
“They were successful in curbing small-scale revenue leakages at the local level,” he said, adding that it will deploy the squads after their work evaluation of last one month.
Though in the districts, traders have been complaining of the Squads monopoly, the department has increased its activities in the wake of low revenue mobilisation.
