Flying squad to check black marketing
KATHMANDU:
The government is planning to set up flying squad to control black marketing and syndicate in the market.
“We are planning a flying squad to mobilise from next month, said joint-secretary of Minister of Commerce and Supply Chandra Ghimire replying the parliamentarians in the Finance and Labour Relation Committee of Legislative Parliament today. Officials at the ministry are busy developing action plan for the flying squad. “It is envisioned by Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattrai and placed in his office,” he said, adding that it will be mobilised according to the complaints of the consumers. Bhattrai had directed to make effective monitoring body to control black marketing, cartelling, hoarding and syndicate last week. The ministry has developed eight programmes to provide relief to the consumers.
Earlier, it had planned to open three markets for Dashain and Tihar like pervious years. State owned Salt Trading Corporation, National Trading and Nepal Food Corporation are selling consumer goods at at least five per cent discount during the festivals.
Further, the corporations are selling goods in suburbs of Kathmandu Valley in mobile vans too. Nepal Food Corporation had reversed from its decision of not selling goats in Dashain and decided to sell about 3,000 goats during Dashain.
Currently, Department of Commerce, District Administration Offices — Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur — and Kathmandu Metropolitan City are monitoring market in Kathmandu.
