Floods Wash Away Road to Ghandruk, Stranding Tourists and Vehicles
Heavy rainfall has triggered flooding in the Modi Khola, disrupting road connectivity and causing damage to property in Kaski and Parbat districts.
The Nayapul–Birethanti–Ghandruk road has been completely blocked after floodwaters washed away a section of the road near Seuli Bazaar, located on the border of Annapurna Rural Municipality Wards 8 and 10.
Continuous rainfall since Monday morning in Kimrung of Annapurna Rural Municipality-11 also triggered landslides at several locations, further worsening the situation in the area.
The floods swept away the restaurant and house of local resident Deepil Gurung, while another restaurant owned by Jagan Pun sustained significant damage.
According to Bharatman Gurung, Ward Chair of Annapurna Rural Municipality-7, several houses located along the banks of the Modi Khola are at high risk due to the rising river level.
The road closure has left hundreds of vehicles bound for the popular tourist villages of Ghandruk and Landruk stranded. The disruption has also affected domestic and international tourists travelling to the Annapurna region for trekking.
Police officials said the damaged road cannot be reopened immediately, warning that transportation along the route is likely to remain disrupted until repair work becomes possible and weather conditions improve.
Authorities have urged residents and travellers to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel in the affected areas as heavy rainfall continues.
